Types of Hand Creams
There are so many different varieties of hand creams that it would be impossible to include them all here. Below you will find some of the most common categories of hand creams broken down by when to use each one. Remember to always moisturize and protect your hands as part of your daily body care routine. The hands are constantly bombarded by environmental insults and harsh chemical. They deserve and need special attention on a regular basis.
Hand Creams with Antioxidants - If you are worried about signs of premature aging on your hands be sure to search out a hand cream that is full of antioxidants. Antioxidants are nature's way of fighting off free radical damage that can be caused by a host of factors to include sun damage and smoking. Antioxidants that can be found in hand creams comprise vitamins A, C and E. Other antioxidants to look for are green tea, silymarin, and superoxide dismutase.
Hand Creams with Sunscreen - We've all been warned countless times to use sunscreen when exposing our bodies to the sun. Most often, however, we are worried mainly about the face and neck. But, don't forget about your hands! This is especially true if you are simply outside for the day walking around. Look for a hand cream that combines nourishing, hydrating and moisturizing qualities with a SPF high enough to protect them from harmful UV rays. If you are having a problem finding a hand cream with sunscreen, look for a sunscreen that doubles as a moisturizer! Many sunscreens are now formulated with moisturizing qualities as well.
For Dry Skin
For people with abnormally dry skin it's best to look for hand creams that combine a rich emollient base with plenty of vitamins and nutrients for healthy hand skin. Stay away from thin, watery types of creams and go for the thicker, creamier products.
For Oily Skin
For persons with oily skin stay away from oil based creams. These will only exacerbate the problem. Look for hand creams that are formulated uniquely for oily skin. Most will be labeled "oil-free".
For Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin can be hard to deal with. Oftentimes it entails itchy, painful patches of skin. For those cases look for a hand cream that is made from all natural ingredients and specifically formulated for sensitive skin.
Don't forget that your fingernails are a part of your hand care treatment, too. Some hand creams offer nail strengthening ingredients in their products as part of a complete hand care routine. If your nails need extra care consider a protein strengthening gel/formula to go along with your everyday hand care cream.
